Stripe Revenue Tracking with Webhooks

A clear guide to using Stripe webhook events for live revenue monitoring while keeping retries, refunds, and payout timing accurate.

Published 31 August 2026 · Updated 31 August 2026

Stripe webhooks are the operational path from a payment event to a useful alert. They let a revenue monitor react to successful payments, failed renewals, refunds, and subscription changes instead of waiting for a dashboard refresh.

Event handling that survives real traffic

  1. Verify the signature. Accept events only from Stripe’s signed webhook payload.
  2. Use the event ID as an idempotency key. Stripe can retry delivery, so processing must be safe to repeat.
  3. Persist the raw event reference. Keep enough context to reconcile the alert with the Stripe record.
  4. Separate payment state from payout state. A successful charge is not the same as money arriving in a bank account.
